After more than nine years of scripting the Green Lantern saga, Geoff Johns has ended his epic run on the title.  Green Lantern #20, which hit comic stands on Wednesday May, 26, marked the end of an era, an era Johns’ created.  

Over the past nine years, Johns has carefully crafted an all but forgotten character into one of DC Comics most loved heroes. As new titles were added he wove his special brand of storytelling across the entire Green Lantern universe; Green Lantern, Green Lantern Corps., Green Lantern New Guardians, and Red Lanterns. All together, Johns has penned over 100 issues of the Green Lantern saga.  

While the Green Lantern series will live on, it will do so without Johns - he will surely be missed by his legion of Lantern fans.

In an interview given to the Associated Press in February, 2013, Johns explained that his decision to leave Green Lantern was a though, but a necessary one. 

"It was a very, very hard decision,” Johns stated. “I absolutely love these characters but I felt like I had a story line that really made sense and felt emotionally satisfying and felt very big and very epic."

Johns said that he wanted to focus his attention on his other titles, Justice League, Justice League of America, and Aquaman. He stated that it was “the time was right for him to make [the Justice League franchise] his primary focus.” 

DC Comics has not disclosed what they have in store for the Justice League, but with Geoff Johns on board, it is sure to be epic.
